Do I Have to Match My Vanity With a Mirror Cabinet?

One of the questions we get a lot is about matching materials and finishes in a bathroom. For example, matte surfaces with glossy surfaces or if you decide to go with a timber vanity, does the mirror cabinet or a mirror need to be timber as well?

There is no written rule about it. That’s the beauty of design, there is so much flexibility to create the spaces the way you like it. After all, everybody has a different tastes and idea about what they like.

In this ensuite renovation, we decided to go with a white polyurethane vanity and a custom solid timber mirror cabinet. Two very different materials and two different finishes. In this case the common thread that ties these two vertical units together is the timber detail in a cabinet pull.

The mirror cabinet is made of Spotted Gum timber and the same timber has been used for the custom cabinet knobs on white groove vanity.

If the vanity was also a timber vanity, the look would be completely different. Taking into consideration a lot of natural light and the style in the brief, we couldn’t be happier with the result.

As you can see, it is absolutely okay to mix and match colours, materials and finishes.
