How to design a nature inspired ensuite bathroom

See our design process for this stunning ensuite bathroom renovation project, inspired by the feel of nature

The design brief

For this recent ensuite bathroom renovation, the aim for our clients was a space that evoked the “feel of nature” with “an understated luxury”. They envisioned a soothing and spacious bathroom with natural materials and textures, a spa-like feel and a hint of opulence. 

Working in close collaboration with our clients, we began the design journey by taking them through a a few of the key “elements of design” which would help bring the vision to life. For example, colour, pattern, contrast and texture, as well as balance and light all have a role to play in achieving just the right atmosphere, aesthetic, layout and functionality.  

The moodboard

Bringing the outside in doesn’t have to mean filling your room with plants. To achieve the feel of nature in this bathroom, we layered a mix of earthy colours, textures and patterns to conjure up that calming effect of being in nature, without being too literal.

• Starting with a simple, neutral floor tile as the background to the palette, we then brought in some warmer tones into the basketweave tile pattern feature wall to bring in  contrast and texture.
• The warm tones and patterns in the Spotted Gum timber selected for the custom hardwood vanity brought the whole look to life. Spotted Gum is a wood with lots of character, so it brought visual contrast to the smooth shine of the tiles and tapware and added a strong nature element. 
• The green concrete basin with its soft and imperfect texture and organic shape, added another beautiful layer to the “feel of nature” design, with the dark green tone creating contrast with the light tiles and a visual focal point.
• Finally the addition of the gunmetal tapware completed the look by adding depth to the colour pallete and sophistication to the overall look.

The layout

With plenty of space to work with in this ensuite, we started the layout by designing a luxurious double walk-in shower around the window, creating that deluxe, spa-like feel with beautiful natural light.

We used two matching nib walls to create a spacious and distinct shower area without the need for any glass shower screens. The nib wall also created a perfect spot for the Just in Place custom Lilly vanity to be nestled between the two walls, directly opposite the door as the first thing you see as you enter.

And the final results!

A luxurious, serene and spacious ensuite bathroom that brings the feel of nature inside. This projects features our  custom made Lilly Vanity in Spotted Gum as well as our Gunmetal tapware:

• Wall mounted shower head and shower arm 
• Basin Mixer and spout 
• Robe hook 
• Shower Mixer with mini diverter
• Round hand held shower and hose

It also features our stunning green concrete basin (made to order) and two stunning pill shaped mirror cabinets (call us to order or visit our showroom to view in person).
