Small Bathroom Renovations

Small Bathroom Layout Ideas

You have decided to take the plunge into the magnificent and exciting world of small bathroom renovations, and we are more than happy to guide you on that journey.

There is a reason why we talk about small bathroom renovations instead of just bathroom renovations. Most households have either average size bathrooms (3.5m x 2.5m) or small bathrooms (3m x 2m). Remodelling a small bathroom has a few challenges like space and other restrictions like plumbing and so on. It is always more challenging to play with small renovation ideas and make these ideas a reality than have a big space where you can easily move things around.

A small bathroom can also be a powder room with a very tight floor area. No matter how small your bathroom is, you can still make it very functional, aesthetically inviting, practical and according to your design flair. And this is where we can help you.

Over the years we have designed, remodelled, renovated, demolished, and rebuilt many small bathrooms and we know exactly what it takes to create a space that will tick all your boxes.

Having your floor plans ready is a great way to start the conversation of turning your outdated and tired bathroom into a perfect sanctuary. The bathroom layout gives a lot of information about your space, natural light, storage options, access and so on. We want to know whether you are willing to move plumbing to find a better place for your toilet or maybe you want to combine your small bathroom with a laundry? Bathroom extensions are very popular and the whole idea of a bigger open space is very attractive. Unfortunately, it is not a possibility in many cases and this is when we need to get creative with design solutions. And let’s be honest, this is where the challenge and fun are.

One of the first things you might think about is tiles. When it comes to tiles, the options are endless. Not only do they come in so many different colours and finishes, but also in different shapes and on top of that, you can also lay them on your floor or walls in many different patterns. It is nice to see that more people are trying something a little different than just a grey and white combination. Colour can be intimidating in a small bathroom because it’s enclosed tight space, but instead of a striking blue or green ceramic wall tile, you can use maybe a subdued modest Sage colour. It pops on the wall just enough to create interest but won’t steal your attention from other features. When introducing colour, think about a feature wall, not all four walls because then it becomes overwhelming. A great way to create a focal point in a small bathroom is to use a beautiful tile in the shower area or on the wall behind a bath.

Then there is a storage dilemma. Even when you think you don’t need much space to store all your toiletries, you will rethink it when they start constantly appearing on your countertop. Having at least ample storage is a must. A great way to solve this problem is to have a custom-made timber vanity and mirror cabinet. Even if they are small ones, they will make such a difference. Since these hardwood vanities are custom made to order, you can choose the measurements, the configuration and even the type of timber.

One of the great small bathroom ideas is to choose tapware that is timeless and classic. Yes, sure the copper taps or brushed rose gold mixers look unique but think whether you will like them also in five years. We absolutely love Brushed Nickel and Gunmetal tapware for a vanity basin or shower. They work very nicely with so many tiles, colours, and natural timber. And on the plus side – if you want to resell your property at some point, the design will appeal to more people.

As you can see you need to be prepared to make lots of small decisions because every decision you make is connected to another one. Therefore, it is always a great idea to seek some guidance and help from industry professionals. Small bathroom renovations don’t have to be stressful or overwhelming. The whole idea is to have fun and create something that you absolutely will love.
