How a combined kitchen and laundry can create more flow in your home

Have you been looking at your floor plan and wondering how you can make the best use of the space?

Combining or connecting your kitchen and laundry areas into a open plan layout could be the key to unlocking more space and better flow for your home and daily life.

Take a look at this recent project we completed on Sydney's Northern Beaches and see why we think a combined kitchen and laundry layout is a brilliant idea for improving a floor plan.

Flow and functionality

Combining or adjoining your kitchen and laundry can significantly improve the functionality of your home and make the flow of daily life easier. With your laundry space just footsteps from your kitchen, shifting between all your household tasks is made that much quicker. With a busy household there's much to be said for being able to quickly pop on a wash while the dinner is on the stove.

Having a laundry space together with your kitchen can also allow you to make your laundry much more multipurpose. Whether you need a spot for a recycling station, kitchen pantry overflow space, or somewhere to store appliances, the laundry can be a that extra bit of kitchen you need.

Use of space

By positioning your laundry together with your kitchen, you may be able to gain back precious space elsewhere in your home. It could give you a more spacious family bathroom for example. If you move your laundry to a smaller space or switch to a Euro style laundry combined with a Butler's Pantry, you might be surprised by how much storage you can achieve with clever design!

Bringing it all together

While the laundry in this recently completed project is in its own space, tucked out of sight, it feels very much part of the kitchen and flows beautifully, both functionally and aesthetically. A wall opening the full width of the aisle, instead of a door, also brings the two spaces together and allows for a maximum flow and light.

The white shaker cabinetry and brass tapware and fixtures are continued from the kitchen, visually making the spaces feel connected. The white subway tile splashback and white stone benchtop are also used in both areas.
